Dispatch from Dilley

On Behalf of | Jan 19, 2016 | Uncategorized

As part of YMF’s ongoing commitment to giving back to the community, this week our senior Associate, Christina Xenides, and paralegal, Vanessa Cabrera, are volunteering in Dilley, Texas, with the CARA Family Detention Pro Bono Project. CARA is a collaboration between the Catholic Legal Immigration Network, the American Immigration Council, the Refugee and Immigrant Center for Education and Legal Services and the American immigration Lawyers Association.

Christina and Vanessa arrived in Texas on Sunday and soon found themselves immersed in the urgent humanitarian efforts. Of the 121 families picked up by ICE in the raids of the past few weeks, 35% of those cases have been processed at Dilley. Christina and Vanessa interviewed the two boys and mother mentioned in the story below and will be working with the other volunteers to fight for their freedom.

Check back with us as we will be providing more updates from Christina and Vanessa throughout the week.
