Citizenship Considerations With International Adoptions and Surrogacy
The Hague Adoption Convention, an international agreement to safeguard inter-country adoptions, prohibits abduction, sale of, or trafficking in children. This panel will discuss the Convention, and how international adoptions and surrogacy relationships are impacted by citizenship and nationality policies and cultural identity concerns. They will review how jus soli (right of soil) and jus sanguinus (right of blood) principles of nationality affect these children.
