H. Raymond Fasano, Esq. will be at the 3rd Annual Citizenship Conference in Rome, Italy

H. Raymond Fasano will again be speaking at the Rome Citizenship Conference. The program is sponsored by the Federal Bar Association, in cooperation with the American Bar Association, Section on International Law, the Stanford Rock Center and the Loyola Rome Center. The conference will explore citizenship and nationality questions in various contexts, including the current crisis of the Ukraine, secession movements in the U.K., Spain and Italy and the current trend of “selling” citizenship in Malta. The idea of citizenship as civil or, at least human right, will be considered with special attention to the boats of migrants arriving in Lampedusa and unaccompanied minors arriving at the southern border of the US. We will also discuss the so-called supra citizen-those people who may have access to multiple citizenships and who may, through technology, supersede traditional national boundaries. These issues will be addressed in the beautiful Palazzo Antici Mattei, a 500 year old edifice in the heart of historic Rome. Mr. Fasano will be appearing on a panel entitled Bartering for Citizenship: Malta and MAVNI. The panel will discuss the Pros and Cons of selling citizenship in the small country of Malta, 50 miles south of Sicily, which it hopes will raise about two billion for development. The program, begun in February 2014, has already attracted interest from hundreds of applicants. And, in a return to an ancient Roman practice, the US military has embraced the concept of granting citizenship in exchange for military service under the MAVNI (Military Accessions Vital to the National Interest) program, and gain citizenship immediately upon enlistment. Margaret D. Stock, Esq. will be appearing on the panel with Mr. Fasano.
